Bet on Yourself

Life’s a gamble, whether you like it or not.

We’re all given a seat at the table.

We’re all dealt a hand.

Some hands suck.

Some hit the jackpot right away.

But most of us land right in the middle – and the ones who get ahead are those who are unafraid to take risks and bet on their own potential, despite their fears – or the odds stacked against them.

Starting a business, moving to a new city, getting a degree, getting out of bed, ending that relationship, quitting that job. These are all bets people make, every single day.

Life's a gamble

But the riskiest bet you can make… isn’t a bet at all.

It’s playing it safe.

It’s staying in the job you hate.

It’s making excuses.

It’s folding and letting others at the table dictate the game.

This is how potential dies.

Poker chips and dice showing that life is a gamble

Sure, life is a gamble – but it’s not all a game of chance. You can sway the odds in your favor by taking action.

Launching my business, building this website, and typing these words you’re reading are my personal forms of taking action and betting on myself. It’s all a carefully calculated risk.

But why am I saying this? WTF does this have to do with design?

If you’re a risk-taker, an odd-defier, or a potential-pursuer launching a new business or a passion project, here’s something you need to know:

Great design turns risk into reward, making life less of a gamble

Great design starts conversations.

It turns heads.

It drops jaws.

Good design is appealing, but great design solves problems – and for the entrepreneurs and business owners I work with, there’s no bigger problems to be solved than:
1) How to be noticed.
2) How to clearly communicate complex ideas.
3) How to reduce unnecessary risk.

I believe design and creativity can turn these problems into opportunities.

If you don’t believe me, I’d love the opportunity to prove you wrong.
